Who We Are
The Cultural Restoration Tourism Project is a unique non-profit organization that provides communities around the world with the opportunity to restore cultural artifacts that are in danger of extinction.
CRTP volunteer tourists spend their vacations putting hearts and hands to work on something meaningful often returning from their trip invigorated by the experience of another culture, people and traditions.
The Chairro Project
Since 2005 CRTP has been assisting a small community in Nepal to rebuild a Buddhist monastery in desperate need of repairs. Always working with the local craftsmen, volunteer tourists began by patching the temple walls. Once the outside walls were restored, their efforts turned to cleaning and securing the ancient paintings inside the temple and replacing the damaged roof. Now, attention has turned to the Galypo, the most sacred of the temples at the monastery.
The next phase will be to rebuild the monks' quarters. When finished, monks will once again be invited to come and study, an art school will be established and a real community will be created where it had fallen away due to lack of resources. You can be a part of this transformation.

“What actually made this such a positive experience is how the project was affecting the locals…”
